Mini Session Contracts

Hey there, photographers! 🎉 Welcome back to the blog. Today, we’re diving deep into a crucial topic for those of you offering mini sessions—your contract. If you’re new to mini sessions or unsure what they are, don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. Check out my YouTube video on Mini Sessions to get up to speed. But for those of you ready to get into the nitty-gritty, let’s talk about what absolutely needs to be in your mini session contract to protect both you and your clients. 📝

Clear Description of Deliverables 📋

One of the first things your mini session contract should include is a clear and detailed description of what your client will receive. Mini sessions typically come with more restrictions compared to full sessions—think shorter time frames, fewer images, and specific deliverables. It’s essential to outline:

  • The duration of the session
  • The number of digital images or prints included
  • Any extras like prints or additional editing

Make sure this is clear not only in your contract but also in your sales page. Your clients should fully understand what they are paying for, and your contract should reinforce that.

How Deliverables Will Be Provided 💌

Once you’ve outlined what your clients are getting, the next step is to explain how those deliverables will be provided. Are you sending digital images via an online gallery? Will they receive prints in the mail? Make sure this is detailed in your contract to avoid any confusion or misunderstandings.

Payment Details 💳

Ah, money. This is where things can get tricky if not handled correctly. Your contract should clearly state:

  • The payment schedule (Is it all upfront? Is there a retainer?)
  • Refund policies (More on this in a bit!)

It’s vital that your clients know exactly how and when payments are expected, as well as what happens if they need to cancel or reschedule. This protects both you and them, ensuring a smooth transaction.

Cancellation & Rescheduling Policies 🌧️

Life happens, and sometimes sessions need to be canceled or rescheduled. Your contract must specify:

  • What happens if the session is canceled due to weather or illness
  • How rescheduling will be handled
  • What your policy is on refunds

I recommend making your mini sessions non-refundable but transferable. This means clients can sell or give their spot to someone else. If you have a VIP Facebook group (more on that later), you can post the available slot there for another client to grab.

Model Release 📸

This is a biggie, y’all! If you’re planning to use the images from your mini sessions for future marketing, you’ll need a model release. This clause gives you the right to use these images on your website, social media, or marketing materials. Remember, these sessions are not just for your clients—they’re also a valuable portfolio builder for you.

Protecting Both Parties 💪

Contracts aren’t just about protecting you; they’re about ensuring your clients get exactly what you promised. This helps build trust and sets the stage for a positive experience, which is key to repeat business and word-of-mouth referrals.
